On 15 October 2009, Thai Prime Minister, His Excellency Abhisit Vejjajiva gave out the awards to the twelve winners of the TRF-CHE-Scopus Researcher Awards during the annual TRF-CHE Congress held in Cha-Am. That evening, Elsevier also hosted an award dinner to honour the winners of the inaugural TRF-CHE-Scopus Researcher Awards.

The TRF-CHE-Scopus Researcher Awards are designed to recognize outstanding and exemplary new researchers and mid-career researchers who have received grants from Thailand Research Fund (TRF) and Commission on Higher Education (CHE).

Research Productivity, Research Impact, Research Excellence as well as Social Impact were used by distinguished panellists as important criteria to award the winners. These awards are jointly supported by TRF, CHE and Scopus.
