Getting it Published in a Research Journal

The importance of training researchers to become good authors has increasingly become a challenging endeavor. This workshop will help authors discover international best practices in publishing, preparing and submitting the correct manuscript language, structuring articles, and understanding ethical writing.

This presentation will cover:

  • Steps needed before writing a paper
  • Using citation database to evaluate journals, authors and collaborators
  • How to ensure that you are using proper manuscript language
  • Building up your article properly
  • Author’s responsibilities & rights

Luaine Bandounas, Journal Publisher, Elsevier

Luaine Bandounas, PhD (@LBandounas) is a Publisher with Elsevier, UK. Luaine was born in South Africa where she studied Microbiology and Medical Virology at the University of Pretoria. She then moved to the Netherlands where she received her PhD in Biotechnology at Delft University of Technology. After working for the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS), she transferred to Elsevier in 2012, where she is currently responsible for the Oceanography journal portfolio.

Getting your paper noticed

This presentation will cover the tools available to researchers to:

  • Pick the right journal to publish in
  • Share their papers after it's been published
  • Track readership and citation statistics

Nicholas Pak, Solutions Consultant, Elsevier

Nicholas is responsible for establishing, maintaining and sharing in-depth knowledge of ScienceDirect, Scopus and Mendeley within the academic and government community.
